I nodded. "My mother was a simple woman, but look at me now-- I'm a full-fledged mage with wonderful children."

I looked off blankly to the side.

I laugh "didnt mean it like that just ment to say all of you know whom your parents are and they are famous while I know not whom mine are"

"Maybe your parent is actually famous, though you don't know who he is." Katsa suggested quiety.

"Maybe you are my son.... Maybe you're King Arthur's. We don't know for sure."

"Maybe you're the son my mother used to have....." Katsa suggested, even quieter.

"You could be anyone's son." Nicci said.

I sighed. "Father, I'll be leaving now." I left.

I grunted in response.

"yea right there's no way my parents if they were famous or knights would leave me in the forest as a child"

"Well, Faye is still the same as I remember." Brom remarked.

"And maybe you got lost as a child!" Katsa suggested.

I chuckled. "She is, Brom.... And Shade-- do you mind if I call you that?-- your parents must have loved you. At least they didn't toss you to the dragons."

"i doubt it" I say sighing

"Come on. Don't be such a downer." Katsa said.

Brom glared at her, but it turned into a smile, when she looked sadly up at him.

I tapped my staff on the ground a few times. "Well, Shade, if you doubt your parents loved you.... Don't. They didn't kill you immediately at birth, like many other children."

"fine " I say thinking why they care

"If your parents didn't love, then Merlin's right. Why are you still alive. And maybe they didn't abondon you. How do you know they weren't saving you?" Nicci asked.

I frowned. "I had heard of such a tale.... But a long time ago. Maybe Faye remembers."

"Faye is quite good at tales." Brom remarked.

"She is," I agreed. I looked behind me. "Where did she go?"

"Why don't you check your magical mirror." Katsa suggested.

"Great idea!" I tapped my staff on the ground, and the mirror appeared in front of me. "Find.... Faye."

An image of Faye walking through the Dragon Land appeared.

"Welll?...." Katsa asked. She raised an eyebrow.

"She's in the Dragon Land.... Hopefully, she paid attention during my magic lessons."

"Hopefully...." Katsa and Brom said at the same time.

I tapped my staff on the floor, making the mirror disappear. "Now, don't be so doubtful of Faye. I never doubted you, Brom."

"But has she doubted me?" Brom asked, and raised an eyebrow.

I shrugged. "She doubts a lot of things."
